All humanity is now involved in a great controversy between Christ and Satan regarding the character of God, His law, and His sovereignty over the universe. This conflict originated in heaven when a created being, endowed with freedom of choice, in self-exaltation became Satan, God's adversary, and led into rebellion a portion of the angels.
The controversy continued on earth when Satan led Adam and Eve into sin. Throughout history, evil has appeared to prosper while the righteous have suffered. Yet the life, death, and resurrection of Christ decisively demonstrated that God is love and that His law is just. The cross reveals the true character of both God and Satan.
The great controversy will be finally settled when the universe sees that God has acted in perfect righteousness and love. Until that time, every person chooses whom to serve. The church is called to stand on God's side, upholding His truth and demonstrating by faith and obedience that His ways are best. In Christ, believers have assurance of victory over evil.
