About

About ASA UR Nyarugenge

A campus church family at the University of Rwanda Nyarugenge Campus — rooted in prayer, Sabbath worship, and service since 1998.

Who we are

A spiritual home on Nyarugenge Campus

ASA UR Nyarugenge (Adventist Students Association, University of Rwanda — Nyarugenge Campus) is a campus church made up of students, alumni, and friends from CST, CMHS, CASS, and beyond.

Our story began when Adventist students far from home gathered for morning and evening prayer. Without a nearby mother church, they needed fellowship on campus — and that prayer group became the seed of the church we are today.

From those first Sabbath School and divine services, we have grown into an official students association and a worshipping community that nurtures faith, supports one another, and shares the gospel on campus and beyond.

Our calling

Mission

To nurture Adventist students and friends in faith through worship, Sabbath School, fellowship, and mission — on Nyarugenge Campus, in surrounding communities, and wherever God sends us.

Who we strive to be

Our values

  • Living as the light of the world
  • Prayer at the centre of our fellowship
  • Faithful witness to the gospel
  • Unity and brotherhood in Christ
  • Welcoming every new member and visitor
  • Serving one another with humility and discipline

Our History

Our story

From a prayer group to an official campus church — how ASA UR Nyarugenge came to be.

  1. Morning and evening prayer

Adventist students from across Rwanda met to pray together on campus. Many had come far from home and could not easily worship at local churches every Sabbath, so this fellowship became their spiritual home.

  2. Sabbath worship begins

The prayer group began Sabbath School and divine services, supported by Adventist staff, soldiers from Camp Kigali, and members from surrounding churches. A small team of student leaders also helped with singing and the practical work of running each service.

  3. ASA KIST–KHI established

With the support of Nyamirambo Evangelical district leaders and campus staff, Adventist Student Association KIST–KHI was officially recognised. The fellowship could now use campus rooms for prayer and worship. Nzitonda Jacques became ASA's first president.

  4. A growing church family

What began with a handful of committed students expanded into a larger worshipping community. More ministries and leaders emerged as students took responsibility for church programs, outreach, and caring for one another as brothers and sisters in Christ.

  5. Evangelism and outreach

The church extended its witness beyond campus — including mission trips to Kenya and evangelistic weeks at Nyabisindu SDA Church, where dozens were baptised and welcomed into the faith.

  6. ASA UR Nyarugenge today

Today we continue as a Sabbath-keeping campus church at University of Rwanda Nyarugenge Campus — worshipping together, discipling students, and serving our community in the name of Christ.

A church without walls

Despite early challenges — no mother church, difficulty securing rooms each week — students persevered until the campus and church leadership provided a lasting foundation for Sabbath worship.

03
