The Sabbath

20 Daily Christian Life

The gracious Creator, after the six days of Creation, rested on the seventh day and instituted the Sabbath for all people as a memorial of Creation. The fourth commandment of God's unchangeable law requires the observance of this seventh-day Sabbath, from evening to evening, as a day of rest, worship, and ministry in harmony with the teaching and practice of Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath.

The Sabbath is a gift rather than a burden. It invites us to cease from ordinary labor, to worship our Creator, and to enjoy fellowship with family and church. Jesus demonstrated that the Sabbath is a day for healing, mercy, and doing good. It points us to the rest we find in Him and foreshadows the eternal rest of God's kingdom.

In a restless world, Sabbath keeping is a sign of loyalty to God and trust in His providence. It sets apart those who acknowledge God as Creator and Redeemer. By honoring the Sabbath, we affirm that our time belongs to God and that our highest joy is found in His presence.
