25 Restoration

The second coming of Christ is the blessed hope of the church, the grand climax of the gospel. The Saviour's coming will be literal, personal, visible, and worldwide. When He returns, the righteous dead will be resurrected, and together with the righteous living they will be glorified and caught up to meet their Lord. The unrighteous will die, and Satan with his followers will be destroyed by fire.

The promise of Christ's return runs throughout Scripture and gives meaning to Christian hope. Jesus Himself assured His disciples that He would come again and that we should live in readiness. Signs of the times indicate that His coming is near, though the exact day and hour remain known only to the Father.

Looking for Christ's appearing motivates holy living, faithful service, and urgent proclamation of the gospel. We do not fear His return but anticipate it with joy, knowing that He will transform our mortal bodies and establish justice forever. Maranatha—come, Lord Jesus—is the prayer of every faithful heart.
